A five-year-old boy recovering from cancer became a superhero for a day, as San Francisco transformed itself into Gotham City and thousands turned out to see the Batkid fly to the rescue.
Thanks to Make-A-Wish, Miles got to be Batkid in Gotham City (San Francisco), and help Batman rescue a damsel in distress and capture the Riddler!

The city’s San Francisco Chronicle printed a special edition for, with a “Gotham City Chronicle” masthead and a screaming headline: “Batkid Saves City!”
Coordinated by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and with at least 12,000 volunteers to cheer him on, Miles Scott’s wish came true in a spectacular display of communal whimsy.
Batkid captured the attention of an entire city and even the country. San Francisco seemed to come to a virtual halt, with all eyes on Miles. Perhaps it came at the perfect time in this politically riven nation. For brief moments, the national focus turned from the political battles in Washington to a child from rural Siskiyou County saving Gotham City.
