It’s always a little nerve-racking moving into a new house or apartment, especially when it’s an old building. Who lived here before me? What went on? What secrets does this place hold? Well, for this lucky (or unlucky) chap, moving into a new apartment came with one big surprise he never expected. You have got to see the pictures and check out what he discovered…
It’s a beautiful place in a very old building. The kitchen/living room has high ceilings…
He quickly gets the essential set up…
Then heads up the stairs to check out the mezzanine…
It’s more of a bunk bed than a bedroom, but really cool…
The bathroom looks pretty standard. Nothing to see here…
Wait a second…what’s this???
Looks like a hatch…this wasn’t in the lease…
Okay, here goes…opening it up…
Cool, just a bit of storage under the floor for some tools and old paint cans. Pretty unexciting…
But just to be sure, let’s move some of this stuff out of the way…Wait, that couldn’t be a secret dungeon under the newly-rented studio apartment, could it? That only happens in poorly-written movies, right???
Okay, this can’t be real. That’s definitely a staircase…
We have a dungeon! We have a dungeon!
At this point, he couldn’t believe his luck and was completely freaked out because this was all so unexpected. He suspected the dungeon stretched the entire building, so naturally he sealed it up, wedged the bathroom door over it, and called a friend for backup. When the friend arrived, they proceeded…
Friend’s here, let’s explore! Yep, a proper 19th century layout of corridors and hatches beneath…
To the right of the corridor, looking underneath his neighbor’s apartment…
Friend examining the end of the corridor. “It stretches further,” she said…
This is on the left of the corridor. Beautiful vaulted ceiling…
Random graffiti…people have been here in this decade…
The basement space is beautiful. Four walls, albeit a bit damp…and a somewhat solid floor. Great headroom down here…
Wait, what? Curious shape in the corner. Bed? Crypt? Good seating for a possible home theater…
Just a pile of bricks or a sacrificial alter?
Then he finds a hole in the middle of the room. Very soft dirt, possibly recently disturbed…
The staircase back to the apartment. Time to head up and contemplate the next move…
According to the tenant, it appears the builders were down in the dungeons when the place was being renovated a few year ago, but it seems completely uninhabited since. There was absolutely no mention of it in his lease. And after thoroughly checking it out, this appears to be the only staircase into the dungeon. He is debating his next move, but admits it’s scary living above it alone!
What do you think? Would you be scared to be living above a possible dungeon? Or excited about all that free space you’re not paying for?
